About Vamos
Vamos is an authentically traditional Cretan village where life still revolves round the village square.. Also the administrative centre of Apokoronas, it has a bank, police station, OTE office, several supermarkets, pharmacy, butcher, etc. There is also a local community-based store offering traditional produce with an excellent reputation, as does the taverna owned and run by the same local group.

There are several bars and other tavernas, mezedekia, zacharoplasteios, kafeneons etc.. A local school has a good reputation and is well attended, and there is a well-known and excellent regional health centre in Vamos staffed 24 hrs a day by English-speaking medical personnel. There are frequent buses into Chania and Rethymno.

Kalives or Almirida are about 8 minutes drive, the New Road about 5 minutes drive, and Chania airport about 30 minutes drive.
